The agencies of the Property Legislation Implementation Plan (OHR, OSCE, UNHCR, UNMiBH & CPRC) today announced the publication of statistics for the implementation of the property laws in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) during the month of November 2001.

The figures show that the Federation of BiH has issued decisions on 78% of all claims received, and has solved 48% of these claims. The RS has issued decisions on 47% of all claims received, and has solved 29% of claims. Brcko District has issued decisions on 42% of all claims, and solved 36%. Overall, decisions have been issued on 63% of claims made to date, while 39% of the claimants have been enabled to repossess their property. Thus, according to the latest statistics for November, throughout the country, a further 154,520 received claims are still awaiting solution. On average, a monthly increase of two per cent has been recorded in the first 11 months of 2001.

In Banja Luka, the increase from last month was less than one per cent; the city with an implementation rate of less than 22%, remains well below the RS average, despite having doubled its implementation since the end of last year. Sarajevo Canton, Herzegovacka-Neretva Canton, and Livno Canton, with just under 40% of all property claims resolved, appear to lag behind several other cantons in the Federation of BiH.
