On Saturday, 3 January, at 12:00, UNIPTF will
host a ceremony in front of the local Brcko police station to mark commencement
of the work of the Brcko Multi-Ethnic police.
The new multi-ethnic police in Brcko began operation on 31 December 1997 in
accordance with the Supervisory order on the formation of a multi-ethnic police
force in the RS Municipality of Brcko. The 230 police officers who make up the
force have all gone through the IPTF certification process.
At the ceremony, IPTF Commissioner Manfred Seitner will, on behalf of the
United Nations Mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina, formally hand over 22 new
patrol cars, 5 computers and other equipment to the local Brcko police
department.
Drawing on a generous contribution of the Japanese Government, IPTF purchased
these vehicles and equipment valued at approximately US$250,000.
This will be followed by the reception hosted by Brcko Supervisor Robert W.
Farrand at the OHR building. This reception is in honour of the newly appointed
officials of the multi-ethnic administration, judiciary, and police force in the
Republika Srpska Municipality of Brcko.
The newly appointed officials, dignitaries of Republika Srpska and the
International Community, and members of the international and national press
have been invited to attend both events.
