“Given the current disputes in the Federation, the need for
functioning institutions – especially the Constitutional Court – has never been
greater,” High Representative, Valentin Inzko, said today.
“Ahead of the vote tomorrow in the Federation House of Peoples
each delegate must be mindful of his or her own individual responsibility for
ensuring that the FBiH Constitutional Court has the capacity to fulfil its
functions,” said the High Representative.
Given the shameful four year failure to appoint the missing
judges to the Federation Constitutional Court which has left this institution
unable to fulfil its constitutional role, the international community in BiH has
highlighted the importance of making this institution fully functional
again.
The Ambassadors of the Steering Board of the Peace
Implementation Council have already welcomed the decision of the Federation
President, with the concurrence of the two Vice Presidents, to appoint judges
from among those approved by the HJPC in accordance with the Constitution and
expressed the expectation that the institutions of the Federation will work
without delay to fulfil this core responsibility under the Constitution of the
Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
