Bosnia and Herzegovina has the institutions that are needed in
order to protect the interests of BiH citizens – but office-holders in the
executive and legislative must ensure that these institutions have the practical
and financial support they require in order to do their job, High Representative
Valentin Inzko said today.
The High Representative was speaking during a visit to the
Audit Office of the Institutions of BiH. He stressed that the role of the Audit
Office is to ensure that every pfennig allocated to Bosnia and Herzegovina is
accounted for and used for its proper purpose.
“The Audit Office is an integral part of the Rule of Law,” the
High Representative said. “It is central to improving transparency and
responsibility in the management of public funds.”
During his meeting with Auditor General, Milenko Sego, the High
Representative was briefed on the main areas of the Auditors’ work and the areas
which the Auditor would like to see addressed in order to ensure that public
funds are used for the benefit of the public rather than the benefit of special
interests or political parties.
