High Representative Valentin Inzko today visited the BiH State
Court and met with Court President Meddžida Kreso and senior members of her
staff. He expressed full support for the BiH court and its staff in upholding
the rule of law.
Describing the State Court and the BiH Prosecutor’s Office as
“cornerstones of the rule of law”, the High Representative noted that “while
each and every court and prosecutor’s office is important, the state judicial
institutions must take the lead in showing citizens that justice is being
delivered. Their personnel are dedicated, professional and effective.”
The High Representative stressed the importance of work being
carried out under the Structured Dialogue between the European Union and the
authorities in Bosnia and Herzegovina. “This is a systematic effort to make the
legal system work more efficiently, and that’s something from which every
citizen will benefit,” he said.
He said that legislation being prepared on the BiH court system
must maintain the essential elements of the criminal jurisdiction of the state
in accordance with the Constitution, which is a fundamental guarantee protecting
the rights of all BiH citizens.
