As part of a series of visits to key institutions within the
BiH security and justice sector, the High Representative, Valentin Inzko, met
with Director General Almir Dzuvo of the BiH Intelligence-Security Agency (OSA)
at their Headquarters in Sarajevo today.
The High Representative welcomed the continued progress in the
development of the agency. OSA was established following the reform of the
former intelligence services in BiH which introduced modern standards, including
of democratic control, in the intelligence sector in BiH. This reform was a
major step forward for BiH and its citizens. “Despite numerous challenges and
sensitivities, the reform of the intelligence sector has continued to be a
success,” said High Representative Inzko.
OSA works closely with a host of regional and international
partners on a variety of important issues including counter-terrorism and
organized crime.
The High Representative also welcomed the fact that cooperation
between BiH security sector actors is at an all time high. “The information that
this agency gathers must be used as effectively as possible” he said.
“Authorities must continue to build on the success of the effective multi-agency
approach, involving OSA, SIPA and police and prosecutors to fight crime and
corruption effectively and to help lower security threats to the citizens of
this country as well as the region”.
