The latest property law implementation statistics show that the overall
property law implementation ratio in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) remains at 93
percent.
The Property Law Implementation agencies, which include the Office of the
High Representatives, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR)
and the OSCE Mission to BiH, reported that as of the end of February, out of a
total of 216,686 property claims registered, 201,566 habitable properties were
repossessed by their legitimate claimants. More than 99 percent of the
first instance decisions were issued.
The three agencies said that a total of 73 municipalities have been verified
as having substantially completed the implementation of the property laws.
In addition, another 54 municipalities reported to have completed all pending
property cases, thereby fulfilling the first requirement from the Municipal
Guidelines for Substantial Completion of the Property Law Implementation.
The municipalities of Doboj and Zvornik joined this group in March, and thus
made an important step towards meeting their legal obligations under the
property laws.
The Agencies call upon the municipalities of Tuzla, Donji Vakuf, Jajce, Banja
Luka, Bijeljina, Prnjavor, Mrkonjic Grad/Ribnik to follow this path and
demonstrate their commitment to the effective completion of this
process.
