High Representative Welcomes Appointment of PDHR Tamir Waser

High Representative Valentin Inzko today welcomed the appointment of US diplomat Tamir Waser as the new Principal Deputy High Representative and Brcko Supervisor. Mr Waser will take up his duties on 21 October.

“Tamir Waser is an experienced and skilful diplomat and his nomination to the OHR is yet another demonstration of the commitment of the United States of America to peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina. He has worked for many years on issues related to European politics and economics and he has invaluable expert knowledge about the challenges facing Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Western Balkans,” the High Representative said. “I am delighted to welcome Mr Waser as my deputy at the OHR as we continue to work with stakeholders to eliminate the remaining challenges to the country’s post-war recovery.”

Before coming to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mr Waser was Special Assistant to the Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs in Washington. He has previously served in US missions in Latvia, Sierra Leone, Australia, and Columbia, as well as at the NATO Office for regional Political-Military Affairs, where he worked with NATO missions in the Balkans.

Mr Waser speaks Bosnian, Serbian, Croatian, Latvian, Spanish and Hebrew. He graduated from the University of Virginia with a degree in History and International Relations and he also holds a Masters degree in International Relations from the same institution.
