High Representative: There should be no alternative to constructive compromise in BiH

High Representative Valentin Inzko met today in Prague with First Deputy Foreign Minister of the Czech Republic Jiři Schneider. He also met former Foreign Minister Karel Schwarzenberg.

Briefing Deputy Minister Schneider on the political situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the High Representative stated that there are opportunities for Bosnia and Herzegovina on the table in this very moment. He expressed hope that political and institutional leaders of Bosnia and Herzegovina will seize these opportunities.

In his talks with Deputy Minister Schneider, High Representative Inzko expressed hope that the new spirit of compromise in the Western Balkans will spill over to Bosnia and Herzegovina. The climate in the region is better than ever before and this is a unique possibility for the country. “Agreements among parties in BiH are the only way forward, and there should be no alternative to compromise”, said the High Representative.

The High Representative thanked Deputy Minister Schneider for the Czech Republic’s long-standing and sustained diplomatic, political and economic support for Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Valentin Inzko also attended the 20th anniversary of the Austrian Cultural Institute in Prague, which he founded before establishing the Austrian Embassy in Sarajevo. After the opening of the Institute a number of events took place there, also devoted to the situation during the war in Bosnia Herzegovina. One of the exhibitions was also visited by the then President of the Czech Republic, Václav Havel.
