Brcko District Supervisor Called on the Brcko District Assembly to Adopt the Budget Without Delay

Principal Deputy High Representative and Supervisor of Brcko District Bruce G. Berton met today with the Heads of Caucuses of the Brcko District Assembly to urge the adoption of a budget of Brcko District for 2016.

Supervisor Berton reminded that, while temporary financing allows for continued functioning of the District institutions, it is an extraordinary instrument that restricts both the amount and the use of revenue and as such cannot be an alternative to budget adoption.

“Any further delay in the adoption of the budget could directly affect the ability of the District institutions to meet their legal obligations, including the organization of the local elections in the District. This is an unacceptable threat to the citizens’ democratic right. As the highest legislative authority, the Brcko District Assembly has the responsibility to ensure proper functioning of the District institutions and not to hinder it. I call on the delegates to show responsibility after the eight-month long impasse and adopt the budget without delay,” said Supervisor Berton.
