Ambassador David M. Robinson is a career member of the United States Senior Foreign Service. Prior to his current appointment in Bosnia and Herzegovina, he served as the Assistant Chief of Mission in the US Embassy in Afghanistan, where he was responsible for political, political/military, public diplomacy, security, consular, and management issues, and for field operations country-wide.

Robinson arrived in Kabul after a tour in the Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration (PRM) as the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary from May 2010 to May 2013. Prior to this, he served from July 2009 to May 2010 as Deputy Assistant Secretary in PRM with responsibility for Europe, Central Asia, and the Americas and for worldwide refugee admissions, among other responsibilities.

Other recent overseas postings include serving as Ambassador to Guyana and United States Representative to the Caribbean Community from 2006-2008, as Deputy Chief of Mission in La Paz, Bolivia, from 2003-2006, and as Deputy Chief of Mission in Asuncion, Paraguay, from 2000-2003.

He also served in the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, and Iceland, and has completed a number of assignments in Washington, D.C., including as Special Coordinator for Venezuela policy and as foreign affairs advisor to Senator Joseph Lieberman.

Ambassador Robinson was born in Hartford, Connecticut, and earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame. He is a Distinguished Graduate of the National War College with a master’s degree in national security strategy and also holds a master’s degree in theology.
