High Representative welcomes resumption of financing of the City of Sarajevo

High Representative Valentin Inzko commended the FBiH Government for today’s adoption of an amendment to the Law on the Allocation of Public Revenue in the FBiH, which will allow for the resumption of financing of the City of Sarajevo.

High Representative Inzko reminded that the problem emerged when the previous composition of the FBiH Parliament amended the relevant law and left out the City of Sarajevo from the new system of indirect tax revenue allocation within the Federation of BiH. As a consequence, Sarajevo has not received any revenue from the FBiH Single Account since May last year.

“This has reached the point when the financing necessary for Sarajevo to carry out its responsibilities and to maintain its basic functioning have been called into question. To address the problem, I wrote to the BiH Council of Ministers Chairman as well as the FBiH and Sarajevo Canton Prime Ministers on 16th of September, and my office has engaged with their offices. I thank Prime Minister Novalic and his team for their cooperation and personal engagement on this matter, and I expect the same engagement and support for the proposed solution by the FBiH Parliament as well”, said the High Representative.
