STATEMENT by the High Representative, Carl Bildt
Today, we are also announcing some changes on our economic side , following up the strengthening of the role of the OHR in this area decided at the London conference.
New Deputy HR for Economic issues will be Mr. Claud Ganz. He has a distinguished background in private US business, and will bring his considerable expertise in these areas to the OHR. The Economic Unit has also been strengthened with representatives of the European Commission and the World Bank in order to ensure better coordination of the overall effort through the Economic Task Force.
Mr. Ganz will be replacing Mr Dick Sklar as Special Representative of the President and the Secretary of State, but will be seconded to the High Representative to assist with the coordination of economic issues.
With Mr. Sklar leaving, Mr. Bildt also wishes to express for the public record his high appreciation for the work Mr. Sklar has done. The close cooperation we have had has been of great importance in shaping this improved mechanism for coordinating the economic assistance and economic reform efforts.
Mr. Victor Massena will continue as Deputy High Representative. In addition to his continued tasks in the economic field, his responsibilities will extend to certain political issues, notably the structural reform issues.
