Bruce G. Berton Appointed Principal Deputy High Representative

High Representative Valentin Inzko welcomed Bruce G. Berton, a US diplomat, who today takes up his duties as the new Principal Deputy High Representative and Brcko Supervisor.

“Nomination of an experienced US diplomat Bruce Berton reaffirms continuous dedication of the United States of America to peace and stability in Bosnia and Herzegovina. I am delighted to welcome Mr Berton as my Principal Deputy at the OHR as we continue to work on enhancing BiH’s capabilities at its Euro-Atlantic path”, the High Representative said.

Before arriving in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bruce Berton served as the Deputy Chief of Mission in the US Embassy in Bulgaria.

He joined the Foreign Service in 1987 and has served in Caracas, Moscow, Bermuda, Hong Kong, Rome, Mexico City, Frankfurt and Warsaw. He also served as a Watch Officer in the Department’s Operations Center and as the Director of the State Department’s Office of Management Innovation. He is the recipient of a number of State Department awards.

Mr. Berton is a native of the Pacific Northwest and is a 1983 magna cum laude graduate of Pacific Lutheran University with an Honours degree in International Relations. Prior to the Foreign Service, he spent three years with the Boeing Company in Seattle.

Mr. Berton is married and father of two.
