Voting is done; certification is next, while work on reforms continues

Principal Deputy High Representative and Brčko District Supervisor, Michael Scanlan, commended today the District Election Commission, polling stations members, and the people of Brčko District for the smooth and safe conduct of Sunday elections, particularly having in mind the challenging circumstances caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Voters in Brčko District have spoken. The next step is for the votes to be certified by 15 December. It will then be up to the elected officials to hold the Assembly’s inaugural session before the end of the year. No time should be wasted to advance the reform process; this is the solemn obligation of every elected official in the District,” added Supervisor Scanlan.

On Election Day, the Supervisor visited the District Election Commission, polling stations in Bukvik, Brka, Gornji Zovik as well as the polling stations for voting by tendered ballots in the city of Brčko.

In today’s meeting with Police Chief Goran Pisić, the Supervisor was informed that investigations into election fraud will continue to be a priority. The Supervisor also met with Director of “Brčko Roads” Vlado Jevtić and Head of the Utilities Department of the Brčko District Government Zoran Bulatović to discuss advancing infrastructure projects and the drafting of reform legislation during the technical mandate period.
