Sarajevo

Representatives of five central banks from the region met in the B&H Central Bank today. They discussed improvement of economic co-operation between the republics and reform of the banking system. The discussion will continue in Belgrade in two weeks. “All five republics will participate in succession of property of the former Yugoslavia”, the Governor of B&H Central Bank, Peter Nicholl said. Svjetlana Celic produced the report.

Sarajevo

Despite announcements, final election results in B&H were not proclaimed today. OSCE announced results of 97% of counted ballots. HDZ issued an announcement, accusing Mr. Robert Barry and the OSCE of carrying out “an election engineering, unseen in democratic countries so far”. The OSCE reply was clear: all PEC decisions must be respected. Reported by Zeljka Lekic.

Dayton

A two-day summit the 5th anniversary since signing of the Dayton Peace Accords started in the Wright Peterson base. Several international and officials from the area of former Yugoslavia participate at the summit. The US President, Bill Clinton is the first winner of the “Dayton Peace Award”, which was established on the fifth anniversary of the Dayton Peace Accords.

Banja Luka

The RS Internal Ministry organised a press conference today, announcing their latest success in stopping crimes, prostitution and kidnappings. Employees of the Ministry also demanded their salaries for September and October, and regular payment of salaries in the future, Biljana Arsic reported.

World

At least three Palestinians were killed in clashes in the West Bank and Gaza.

The US President, Bill Clinton visited Hanoi. Mr. Clinton met the Vietnamese President and several other officials and discussed economic co-operation and human rights with them.

The Florida Supreme Court approved continuation of hand counting of ballots in two Florida counties. Gordana Frimel reported on world events.

Banja Luka

The B&H Refugee Association organised a press conference in Banja Luka today. About 30 000 refugees and the displaced started spontaneously returning to their homes, Sanela Zivkovic reported.

Bijeljina

Evictions of families of war invalids and demobilised soldiers in the area of Bijeljina will continue during the winter. Local authorities will provide alternative accommodation for them. Reported by Tanja Gajic.

Mostar

Identification of about 40 bodies killed in 1992 and 1993 started today in the city graveyard “Sutina”. Anja Grujic produced the report.

The Founding Bureau of the Goethe Institute was opened in the Art Gallery in Sarajevo. The German Ambassador, Hans Johan Peters opened the Institute, Meliha Hasanbegovic reported.
