  • 1971 – 1973: Second Secretary Political, Bonn
  • 1973 – 1977: First Secretary Political, Kuala Lumpur
  • 1977 – 1979: First Secretary, Security Policy Department, FCO
  • 1979 – 1980: Private Secretary to Minister of State responsible for Central and Eastern Europe
  • 1981 – 1982: Head of Political Department, British Embassy in Bucharest
  • 1983 – 1987: Deputy Head of Western European Department at FCO
  • 1987 – 1990: Deputy Head of Mission, East Berlin
  • 1990 – 1993: Her Majesty’s Consul General, Frankfurt
  • 1993 – 1997: Head of the OSCE and Council of Europe Department at the FCO
  • 1997 – 2000: HM’s Ambassador to the Republic of Croatia
